AFRICAN PRINT SKIRT + #AUSTINSBARBERBATTLE

Shavonne B. Means

And again....it's been over 2 weeks since I have posted. Shame on me.

A lot has been going in the justVonne world these days. I have been invited to participate as a designer in DFW Teen Fashion Week in Dallas in October and I couldn't be anymore excited. This is huge for me. I have an overwhelming amount of support from family and friends that this experience is going to be nothing short of amazing. On top of all that I am also working on opening my Etsy shop so stay tuned for details for that coming very soon.

It has been quite hot and humid here in Upstate New York all week but yesterday (Saturday) was an absolutely beautiful day. The sun was shining and there was no humidity so that means a good hair day for me. My husband, son, and myself headed to the Empire State Plaza in Albany for African American Family Day. A good friend of mine, Jesse that I grew up with in Saratoga was competing in the #AustinsBarberBattle and I wouldn't be a friend if I didn't go support him. It was a lot of fun and I enjoy watching creative people make magic with their craft. All the barbers that participated did an amazing job! I could never do it. I just don't have a steady enough hand to hold clippers or a razor. My clienele list would for sure would be non-existent.

Now the fun stuff - WHAT I WORE!

I have had this African Fabric for about 2 months now. I had an idea already of what I had planned to make with it since I bought it, but the longer I had the fabric the more my mind leaned to something else. So a skirt it was. Let me tell you, although I wish the skirt was more bright in colors I got SO many compliments when I wore it yesterday. I paired it with a simple hot pink tank to give the whole look that pop of color I wanted it to have.

Skirt was self drafted and you know I love my pockets. I have JUST enough leftover fabric to make a knee length version. I am going to save that for a Fall look. So when you see this print again just act like it's your first time seeing it. ;-)

If you are in the Saratoga Springs, NY area and in need of an amazing barber please be sure to check out Jess Ya Barber. Jesse works out of Hair Creations Salon located at 12 Phila St., Saratoga Springs, NY.
